The Whipping Post Take on Santa Barbara Independent
LOCAL 'CLIMATE COMMISSARS' CONVENE TEDX ECHO CHAMBER TO 'GET OUT OF DOOM AND GLOOM' (BUT ONLY IF IT'S THEIR DOOM)!
Santa Barbara's environmental elite gathered for a TEDx event, presumably to pat themselves on the back for saving us from a warming planet while sipping organic artisanal water.

The Santa Barbara Independent, ever the diligent stenographer for the eco-nomenklatura, recently reported on a TEDx event designed to pull 'climate activists out of the doom and gloom.' One can only imagine the struggle: how do you maintain that perpetually distressed, holier-than-thou facade when the private jets are fueled and ready for the next global conference? It seems the local 'Community Environmental Council' (translation: a taxpayer-subsidized lobbying firm for green mandates) believes more 'salon-style' self-congratulation is the cure for their self-induced climate anxiety.
Indeed, nothing says 'grassroots environmentalism' quite like an invitation-only, exclusive TEDx screening, where the biggest 'action' involves deciding which locally sourced, gluten-free snack to pontificate over. The real story here, of course, isn't the 'uplifted community,' but the endless feedback loop of climate alarmism that keeps these groups funded and relevant. They're not getting out of the 'doom and gloom'; they’re merely strategizing how to package it better to sell more carbon credits and demand more subsidies for their increasingly elaborate projects — which invariably cost the rest of us a fortune.
One has to wonder what profound insights emerged from this gathering of the enlightened. Did they brainstorm new ways to tell us our gas stoves are sentient planet-killers? Or perhaps strategize about expanding the plastic straw ban to include, say, plastic thoughts? The Independent's piece, while earnest, neatly sidesteps the obvious: this entire charade is less about environmental action and more about maintaining the lucrative ecosystem of climate activism, where the biggest emissions come from the hot air exchanged in these 'uplifting' salons.
It’s a peculiar brand of ‘activism’ that requires a TEDx event to inspire itself. Most folks just go to work, pay their taxes, and try not to freeze because some bureaucrat decided they can’t run their heater. But here in Santa Barbara, our climate commissars need a bespoke TED Talk to remind them to keep fighting the good fight, presumably until every last one of us is riding a bicycle made of reclaimed bamboo, powered by pure unadulterated guilt.
