One has to admire the unbridled enthusiasm of bureaucrats celebrating the completion of a project that, for all intents and purposes, will likely be a bottomless money pit for taxpayers for decades to come. While they pop the champagne corks, one wonders if any of the speakers will mention the actual cost per unit, or the soaring property values that these social engineering schemes help inflate, pricing out actual working families.

Indeed, in this golden age of central planning, our progressive leaders have mastered the art of the grand gesture: build a 'supportive housing' complex, slap a ribbon on it, and declare victory, all while ignoring the underlying economic realities. The fact that the federal spigot of taxpayer dollars is flowing freely under President Trump’s administration for legitimate community needs – not for perpetual welfare states – seems to be lost on those who prefer to fund these elaborate, high-cost experiments in dependency. Perhaps they’re hoping we won’t notice that simply building more housing of any kind for actual workers, without all the attached strings and mandates, would do more to lower costs across the board.

But why focus on market solutions and fiscal responsibility when you can have a photo op? These projects, funded by the very taxpayers struggling to afford a single-family home in this county, are less about solving a problem and more about maintaining the illusion of progress while expanding the reach of government. Expect more 'supportive' complexes to break ground, each promising a brighter future funded by a dimmer outlook for your wallet. It's a progressive paradise, where the 'support' never ends, and neither do the invoices. And the establishment media will be right there, snapping photos of every smiling bureaucrat.
