The Whipping Post Take on Santa Barbara Independent
INDEPENDENT SHOCKED LOCAL LAWS APPLY TO NON-CITIZENS, CALLS IT 'SHIFT IN TACTICS'
Apparently, the Santa Barbara Independent just discovered immigration laws exist, and now they're clutching their pearls harder than a debutante at a cow branding.

It seems the Santa Barbara Independent, in what can only be described as a groundbreaking piece of investigative journalism, has uncovered a shocking 'shift in enforcement tactics.' Their earth-shattering discovery? When immigration laws are actually enforced, people get arrested. Who knew? We here at The Whipping Post always assumed 'laws' were merely suggestions for some, and only strictly applicable to those of us shelling out for property taxes and business licenses.
The Independent's breathless report tells us over 2,050 'immigration-related arrests' have occurred on the Central Coast since January. Imagine the horror! Bureaucrats, perhaps emboldened by, you know, their actual job description, are apparently *doing their jobs*. This, according to 'immigrant rights organizations' (who invariably see any law enforcement action as a human rights violation, unless it's policing conservative thought), constitutes a 'surge.' Perhaps they'd prefer a 'surge' of free community college and artisanal oat milk lattes? What's next, will police start enforcing speed limits and prosecuting shoplifters at Nordstrom? The very fabric of Santa Barbara's progressive utopia might unravel!
What the Independent conveniently leaves out is the actual *context* of these 'arrests.' Is it possible some of these 2,000-plus individuals were involved in activities beyond picking organic kale? Are any of them, gasp, actual criminals? The outlet would never tell you, because that complicates their tidy narrative that any enforcement of border or immigration policy is an act of unadulterated evil. It's almost as if some people believe the rule of law should apply universally, not just when it's politically convenient or emotionally gratifying to the activist class. But really, why bother with such trivial details when you can just wring your hands and decry 'tactical shifts'?
