The Whipping Post Take on Santa Barbara Independent
INDEPENDENT'S 'ENDORSEMENTS': MORE LIKE 'PRE-WRITTEN ORDERS FROM THE PARTY'
Local 'paper of record' drops its 'endorsements' for 2026, which somehow perfectly align with every establishment Democrat talking point and a few well-placed donor interests.

The DispatchIt’s November 2026, and the Santa Barbara Independent has once again graced us with its profound political insights, helpfully titled 'The Santa Barbara Independent Endorsements for the General Election.' What a shocking, paradigm-shifting revelation! Who could have possibly predicted that our local paper, a beacon of 'unbiased journalism' (snicker), would once again meticulously curate a list of candidates and propositions that exactly mirrors the preferences of every progressive activist, union boss, and 'affordable housing' developer with a conveniently timed campaign donation? It's almost as if they receive a memo from the county DNC a week beforehand, save for the awkward attempt to make it look like they actually deliberated.
One must admire the sheer predictability. Our esteemed local rag's 'endorsements' are less about informing the public and more about offering a comforting, pre-approved shopping list for the ideologically timid. It’s a beautifully crafted echo chamber, designed to ensure no independent thought sullies the carefully cultivated narrative. One can only imagine the intense, late-night debates that must have occurred in their editorial board room, probably over fair-trade kombucha, about whether to endorse Candidate A (who pledges to raise taxes by 10%) or Candidate B (who pledges to raise them by 12%). Talk about tough choices!
What the Independent conveniently forgets to mention in their meticulously crafted political pamphlet is the price tag of these 'progressive' visions. Each endorsed candidate and proposition comes with an unspoken promise of more bureaucracy, more regulation, and, invariably, more of your hard-earned money funneling into endless, inefficient government programs and questionable 'community initiatives.' It’s the kind of fiscal prudence that makes a drunken sailor look like a certified public accountant. But don't worry, the Independent assures us it's all for the 'greater good.' Just keep paying those property taxes, folks, and don't ask too many questions. Your betters at the Independent have already done all the thinking for you.
