The Whipping Post Take on Santa Barbara Independent

INDEPENDENT DISCOVERS 'VOICES' – SHOCKER! – THEN BLAMES YOU FOR DIVISION

It seems the Santa Barbara Independent has finally noticed that not everyone in our fair county marches in lockstep with their meticulously curated editorial line. In a stunning piece of self-awareness – quickly followed by a dizzying swivel to blame the citizenry – they've declared that "division" is afoot because "many community voices" are being "excluded." One might be tempted to ask: excluded by whom, exactly? Perhaps by an echo chamber masquerading as a newsroom, diligently stifling any viewpoint that doesn't align with the latest progressive catechism?

For years, "the Santa Barbara Way" has apparently meant nodding along politely while unelected bureaucrats and their hand-picked consultants dictate policy, all while the Independent pats itself on the back for 'listening to the community' – a community, coincidentally, that always seems to agree with *them*. Now, suddenly, the 'community' is making noise that doesn't fit the script, and the paper is clutching its pearls, wringing its hands over this 'unhealthy' development. It’s almost as if genuine inclusion and diverse opinions create, gasp, *disagreement*! Who knew that allowing actual debate might lead to people having different ideas instead of just performing dutiful solidarity?

This isn't about "excluding voices," it's about the Independent's preferred choir hitting a sour note, and they can't handle the dissonance. Perhaps if they spent less time sermonizing from their lofty perch and more time reporting on the fiscal realities imposed by their favored ideologues – like the endless fees, taxes, and green mandates crushing local businesses and families – they might understand why some voices are indeed quite loud, and not in the way they prefer. But that would require actual journalism, not just virtue signaling, which is clearly not 'the Santa Barbara Way' as practiced by our local paper of record.
