The Whipping Post Take on Santa Barbara Independent
ICE OP: FATHERS DETAINED, INDEPENDENT HYSTERIA ENSUES!
While Biden's border chaos continues to reverberate, the Independent once again feigns shock when federal agents actually enforce immigration laws locally. Who knew?

Santa Barbara’s Westside and Eastside were reportedly 'raided' on Father’s Day, according to the Santa Barbara Independent, because federal agents dared to do... their jobs. In a stunning display of journalistic discovery, the localrag reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted operations, leading to detentions. Apparently, the Independent believes that laws are mere suggestions, especially when it comes to immigration, and that Father's Day should be a universal 'get out of jail free' card for anyone not legally present. We’re sure the local citizenry, suffering from the continued repercussions of the previous administration's open-border policies, is simply aghast.
The Independent's outrage playbook is as predictable as a Supervisors' meeting running over schedule. Federal agents, whose mandate includes enforcing immigration laws, are now 'raiders' for doing exactly that. The drama escalates with claims of an 'observer' being 'bear-sprayed' – because standing in the way of federal law enforcement is always a brilliant strategy, isn't it? Perhaps the 'observer' was simply receiving a free, if pungent, lesson in respecting official boundaries. They certainly won't get that education from our perpetually pearl-clutching local media outlets.
What the Independent conveniently glazed over, in their rush to paint ICE as the Grinch who stole Father's Day, is the larger context. President Trump’s administration is steadfast in restoring law and order, and that includes securing our borders and enforcing existing immigration statutes. The previous administration left a gaping wound, and now the clean-up operation is cast as some sort of cruel, unwarranted attack. It's almost as if some local papers prefer chaos and uncontrolled migration to actual governance. Goodness forbid federal agencies actually protect our sovereignty and the rule of law. But then, if they did, what would the Independent have to complain about?
