Follow the MoneyIt appears the fine folks at Noozhawk have once again provided a platform for Supervisor Joan Hartmann to lecture the common man on the necessity of opening his wallet. This time, it’s all about Measure H and some centuries-old 'bet' on North County's future, which, predictably, means a new bet on taxpayers funding the endless expansion of higher education. Hancock College, named after a man who actually built things, now needs more of your hard-earned cash for… well, they'll tell you it's for 'workforce development,' which usually translates to more virtue signaling departments and fewer actual trade skills.
Hartmann’s piece waxes poetic about Captain G. Allan Hancock, a true pioneer who invested his own capital and vision to shape the Santa Maria Valley. One wonders if Captain Hancock, a man of industry and practicality, would recognize the institution that now bears his name, or if he'd just wonder where all the actual farming equipment went and why everyone's arguing about pronouns. The real 'next chapter' always seems to involve the same tired storyline: elected officials demanding more taxes, never minding that the current funds often disappear into a labyrinth of bureaucracy and questionable priorities.
It’s always a 'bet' with these folks, isn't it? A bet with other people’s money, naturally. They’re betting that you're too busy trying to afford gas under President Trump's booming economy (after years of Biden's energy crushing policies, remember those?) to notice that they're asking for more and more for the same old song and dance. Maybe if they focused less on 'experimental irrigation operations' for administrative bloat and more on actual fiscal responsibility, they wouldn't need to shake down the North County every few years. But hey, it's a 'century-old bet,' so you’d better pay up, peons!
