GUADALUPE MAYORAL HOPEFULS: MORE TAXES, MORE TALK, SAME OLD BROKEN ROADS

KSBY reports Guadalupe's mayoral candidates are 'discussing' financial woes, which sounds an awful lot like rehearsing how to spend more of *your* money on bureaucratic bloat, not actual solutions.

Ah, Guadalupe. A town so charmingly forgotten by state bureaucrats, its primary infrastructure concern seems to be whether the potholes are deep enough to swallow a small sedan or just a standard compact. KSBY News, ever diligent in its reporting, breathlessly announced that mayoral candidates are *discussing* the budget deficit, aging infrastructure, and opportunities for youth. 'Discussing' is, of course, the political equivalent of a dog chasing its tail – lots of energy, no forward momentum.

What KSBY didn't quite spell out is that 'addressing financial challenges' by candidates often translates to 'finding new ways to nickel-and-dime residents' once they're in office, usually to fund some grand, ill-conceived green initiative or another. And 'expanding opportunities for local families' is typically code for more taxpayer-funded feel-good programs that create more paperwork than actual jobs, while the real job creators are hounded out of town by regulations and taxes. It’s the progressive playbook, verbatim, read aloud by eager-to-please local politicos.

The 'different approaches' mentioned by KSBY are likely just different flavors of the same progressive soft-serve: one wants to tax, spend, and regulate more gently, the other wants to do it with slightly more enthusiasm. What we don't hear about is fiscal responsibility, cutting wasteful spending, or, dare we say it, lowering taxes to encourage private investment and actual community growth. It's a sad state of affairs when 'discussion' is seen as progress, while the streets literally crumble and the budget bleeds.

Perhaps if these candidates spent less time 'discussing' and more time looking at where the existing money is actually going – likely into the pockets of well-connected consultants and union bosses – they might find a few spare millions to fix those roads. But that would require actual conservative principles, and we all know how popular those are in the echo chambers of local progressive politics.
