The Santa Barbara Independent, in its infinite wisdom, recently sniffed out a story about Sable Offshore Corp. daring to ask the County for a *second* variance. Imagine the horror! A local business, contributing jobs and energy independence, needing a little flexibility from the regulatory behemoth that is Santa Barbara County government. The pearl-clutching is practically audible from the coastline all the way to those Montecito mansions.

Never mind that Sable is a vital part of our nation’s energy supply, especially with President Trump working tirelessly to unleash American production. The County’s Green Inquisition would rather grandstand about 'pollution problems'—likely a few drops of water out of place—and conveniently ignore the mountain of taxes and economic activity Sable brings. This isn't about environmental protection; it’s about political posturing and keeping the narrative that fossil fuels are some kind of apocalyptic evil, even as every modern convenience relies on them. The sheer hypocrisy of these green mandarins, driving their Teslas recharged by electricity often generated by natural gas, never ceases to amaze.

And let's not forget the Independent’s subtle jab at a CEO's pay package. Apparently, the left believes that if you're successful in an industry they dislike, you don't deserve the fruits of your labor. This is the socialist envy talking, pure and simple. While they wag fingers at private sector salaries, they conveniently ignore the bloated, ever-growing budgets and endless consultant fees that flow through the county’s own coffers, funded by the very businesses they demonize. Perhaps if the Supervisors spent less time virtue-signaling and more time facilitating responsible industry, our local economy wouldn't be perpetually teetering on the brink of over-regulation.

The real story here isn't Sable’s variance, or even the CEO’s well-earned compensation. It’s the constant, grinding pressure from local progressive bureaucrats who seem determined to drive every productive enterprise out of Santa Barbara County, all in the name of an unattainable ecological purity that would leave us shivering in the dark, dependent on foreign despots for our energy.
