The Whipping Post Take on Noozhawk
GREEN GURU DECODES 'SUSTAINABILITY' FOR THE RICH AT 'THE HUB'
Another 'expert' from out of town will explain how Santa Barbarans can pay more for less, all under the guise of saving the planet.

It appears Noozhawk, ever vigilant in reporting on events that will surely delight their readership, has stumbled upon the earth-shattering news that the Community Environmental Council (CEC) is hosting yet another 'expert' to pontificate on 'sustainability.' This time, it's a Dr. Brett Caraway, flying in (presumably not by bicycle) to enlighten the local gentry at 'The Hub' with his 'Critical Introduction to the Economics of Sustainability.' We're sure it's absolutely thrilling, right up there with watching paint dry, but with more guilt-tripping.
One can only imagine the vital insights Dr. Caraway will impart. Perhaps he'll explain, in excruciating detail, how every single decision we make contributes to the impending doom of… well, something. And then, he'll likely offer solutions that involve the public paying more taxes, enduring more regulations, and generally lowering their standard of living, all for the benefit of 'the planet' – and, coincidentally, for the continued employment of 'sustainability' consultants.
The real 'crossroads of economics and challenges of sustainability' he won't be discussing, of course, is how these eco-fads consistently hike up housing costs, make energy unaffordable for working families, and enrich a select few who profit from the green movement's endless grants and government mandates. While Dr. Caraway is busy explaining how we all need to sacrifice, the powerful interests behind these initiatives continue to enjoy their lavish lifestyles, funded by the very policies they advocate.
Here's the angle nobody else printed: the CEC, like so many of these 'environmental' groups, thrives on fear-mongering and the perpetuation of crises. Their 'solutions' rarely involve true economic growth or individual liberty, but rather more top-down control and dependency on their special brand of 'expertise.' It's a lucrative business, convincing people they need saving from themselves, especially when others are footing the bill.
