The Whipping Post Take on Santa Barbara Independent
GREEN GRUMBLERS GRIPE AGAIN: BOARD RE-OKS SABLE; OIL FLOWS ON!
Eco-warriors threw another tantrum over offshore oil, only to watch local bureaucrats rubber-stamp reality, proving some things actually work in this county.

Power & PoliticsWell, bless their hearts, the perpetually outraged environmentalists, fueled by organic kale smoothies and visions of a wind-powered utopia, dragged the county's Air Pollution Control District (APCD) back to the trough for a reheard ding-dong over Sable Offshore's 'pollution waiver.' And to absolutely no one's surprise outside of a Sierra Club meeting, the APCD said, 'Yep, still good.' The Santa Barbara Independent, ever eager to highlight every environmental whimper as if it were a thunderclap, recounted the thrilling saga of a board reviewing its own decision and, gasp, sticking to it. One might almost think these regulatory bodies are capable of consistent thought, even if it occasionally benefits an industry that actually produces something.
Evidently, some folks in Santa Barbara believe endless bureaucratic appeals are a substitute for actual productive work. The 'No Choice' headline from the Indy almost suggests the APCD was forced into approving something logical. Imagine that: a county agency making a decision that aligns with economic reality instead of bowing to the latest eco-fad. It's a miracle! This wasn't about more pollution; it was about keeping the lights on and the cars moving with domestic energy, rather than importing it from places that truly don't care about the environment. But why let facts get in the way of a good wailing session, right?
The real story here isn't the 're-approval' of a necessary permit but the sheer audacity of the green lobby to continually halt progress under the guise of 'environmental protection.' Every time a barrel of oil is prevented from being drilled here, it just means we're buying it from some less-than-stellar regime overseas, boosting their economies and their environmental practices (or lack thereof). The APCD, for once, actually stood firm against the tide of constant, well-funded badgering, allowing a local business to continue operating and providing critical resources. Perhaps there's a glimmer of common sense left in this county after all – or at least enough to re-read their own rules and realize they got it right the first time.
