GREEN GRANTS EXTENDED, TAXPAYERS GET THE SHAFT AGAIN!

It seems the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, ever vigilant in their quest to drain public coffers, has decided that the Cuyama Valley's 'resilience' needs a few more months — and undoubtedly, a few more taxpayer dollars. The intrepid public servants, in an agenda item that surely kept them up at night, rubber-stamped extended contracts for the Community Environmental Council and True Nature Society dba Quail Springs. Because, apparently, even 'resiliency' has deadlines that can be stretched like a politician's conscience.

Originally set to expire in August 2026, these taxpayer-funded boondoggles now get a leisurely extension to March 2027. Why the sudden need for more time? Did the Cuyama Valley suddenly become less 'resilient' overnight, requiring additional months of 'community engagement' and 'sustainable agriculture practices' – activities that, funnily enough, seem to eternally require public funding without ever quite achieving self-sufficiency? One can only assume.

But here’s the real kicker: the Supervisors swiftly determined these extensions are not subject to CEQA review. Yes, extending contracts for groups that ostensibly deal with environmental matters is somehow exempt from environmental review. It's almost as if the rules are selectively applied to expedite the flow of funds to favored progressive outfits, while genuine development and job-creating industries face endless red tape and scrutiny. The local daily rags, of course, will dutifully report this as a noble effort to save the planet, rather than what it is: another quiet handshake between the county and its preferred green grant recipients, funded by you, the ever-patient taxpayer. While President Trump rebuilds America's energy independence, our local 'leaders' are busy ensuring perpetual contracts for groups whose primary output seems to be more requests for public money.
