It seems the activist-laden 'Ocean Protection Council' in Sacramento has decided the state's marine life is far too important for us plebians to enjoy, fish, or, heaven forbid, *develop energy from*. According to the Santa Barbara Independent, which breathlessly reported on this latest eco-fantasy, these unelected coastal commissars are pushing to expand 'Marine Protected Areas' – read: taxpayer-funded exclusion zones – right off our beautiful Carpinteria coast. This, despite the actual Department of Fish and Wildlife suggesting, quite sensibly, that it's a bad idea. Imagine, a government agency actually admitting that more government isn't always the answer! Clearly, Fish and Wildlife hasn't received the memo about performative environmentalism being California's number one export.

One has to wonder what deep-pocketed progressive donor or virtue-signaling foundation stands to benefit from essentially turning prime real estate into a no-go zone. Is it a new boutique eco-tourism venture that needs 'pristine' backdrops? Or perhaps a convenient excuse to further hamstring our beleaguered energy sector, ensuring we remain dependent on foreign oil while our own resources lay dormant? The left's playbook is as predictable as the tide: create a crisis, propose a ludicrous solution that expands state power, and then shake down taxpayers and industry to fund it. The 'ocean conservation' jargon is just a fancy wrapper for another power grab.

While hardworking Californians struggle with gas prices and the rising cost of, well, everything, these self-appointed protectors of plankton are busy drawing imaginary lines in the water, patting themselves on the back for 'saving' an ocean that frankly, was doing just fine before they decided to micromanage it. It's not about protection; it's about control. And it's another shining example of why California's ruling class remains utterly detached from the realities faced by the very people whose votes (and taxes) they so eagerly solicit, then ignore. Thank President Trump for keeping our national energy strategy focused on American strength, not oceanic fantasy zones.
