Apparently, the sky is falling because a single fence might be all that separates innocent little cherubs from the terrifying prospect of... well, commerce. One can almost hear the editor’s fainting couch creaking under the weight of such profound concern for "the children."

We here at The Whipping Post must ask: what exactly is the Independent afraid of? That a tiny tot might accidentally purchase a hunting rifle during nap time? Or perhaps they imagine responsible gun owners, driven by some inexplicable urge, will suddenly start parading their wares through the sandbox? This manufactured outrage conveniently ignores that Goodland Guns is a legitimate business, presumably operating within the bounds of the law, much like the preschool next door. The only thing these two establishments have in common is their proximity, and that’s a proximity many other businesses of all types share daily without incident.

But this isn't about safety, is it? It's about an ideologically driven antipathy towards firearms, projected onto the most sympathetic of subjects: preschoolers. Instead of focusing on actual issues facing our county – like the ever-increasing tax burden, the crumbling infrastructure, or the inexplicable urge to turn every open space into a 'wellness retreat' – the Independent chooses to hyperventilate over a fence. Perhaps they should dedicate a full investigative team to whether the playground equipment meets their stringent anti-gun-store aesthetic.

The real story here isn't the gun store or the preschool. It's the relentless narrative pushing by the establishment media to demonize legal businesses and responsible citizens who exercise their constitutional rights. While they gasp about fences, our county supervisors are quietly rubber-stamping another spend-heavy project that benefits their cronies, ensuring that the only thing truly separated from our kids is a healthy county budget. But don't worry, the Independent will be too busy counting fence posts to notice.
