GOLETA COUNCIL WHISPERS SWEET NOTHINGS TO LIBRARY, TAXPAYERS GET THE BILL!

It’s 2026, and while the Trump economy is humming along, some things remain eternally predictable: Goleta City Council continues finding new and creative ways to spend taxpayer dollars. Our friends at KEYT NewsChannel 3-12, ever so innocently, reported on the latest thrilling installment: the City Council’s Pow-Wow over Goleta Valley Library funding and its perpetual 'capital campaign.' One has to wonder, is this a library, or a bottomless pit disguised as a community asset?

Apparently, while children are busy earning tokens for claw machines (a far more stimulating activity than anything inside these hallowed progressive halls these days), the council decided it was time to 'read up' on how much more money they could siphon off the citizens for this literary paradise. The main library on Fairview Avenue is getting an 'infrastructure upgrade,' which in bureaucratic speak usually means 'we found a new contractor who’s a friend of a friend, and now the price has mysteriously doubled.' Meanwhile, actual readers are inconvenienced, but who cares, as long as the coffers are full, right?

The Whipping Post has to ask: exactly what 'capital' are we campaigning for here? Perhaps a new wing dedicated to 'Understanding Socialism' or a 'Gender Pronoun Pronunciation Guide' section? Given the state of local government, it’s rarely about books and always about burgeoning budgets and pet projects. One wonders which developer stands to gain from the next 'infrastructure' boondoggle or which woke consultant will be hired to 'reimagine' the library's relevance in the age of Trump's America. Don’t expect KEYT to ask those tough questions; they’re too busy applauding the 'read-a-palooza' and missing the actual story of your tax dollars being redistributed.
