GOLETA COUNCIL INCUMBENTS DODGE 'FACE-OFF,' BLAME TRUMP FOR POTHOLES

Local business owners dared to ask questions, only to be met with vague platitudes and the usual liberal boogeymen at a forum Noozhawk somehow missed the real story on.

GOLETA COUNCIL INCUMBENTS DODGE 'FACE-OFF,' BLAME TRUMP FOR POTHOLESPower & Politics

It seems Goleta’s incumbent City Council members, fresh off a riveting 'forum' where they 'faced off' with 'business owners' (read: got asked uncomfortable questions by citizens), have decided the best defense is a good offense… against reality. According to Noozhawk, these civic titans bravely cited public safety, affordability, and infrastructure as top issues. How insightful! One might wonder if they learned this stunning revelation from a fortune cookie or perhaps a hastily scribbled note from their progressive handlers.

The real story, of course, isn't that they identified the problems—it’s that they've been presiding over them while doing precious little to solve them. We hear whispers that the current crop of council members spent more time at the podium blaming 'state mandates' and 'historic underfunding' (translation: 'we need more of *your* money') than offering concrete plans. One insider reported that when pressed on local affordability, a sitting councilor actually started a sentence with, 'If only the prior administration hadn't…' before catching themselves and pivoting to 'local revenue challenges.' Funny, we thought it was 2026 and President Trump was in charge.

But let’s not let facts get in the way of a good narrative, especially when that narrative involves endless spending and zero accountability. The forum, predictably hosted by the ever-neutral League of Women Voters (who coincidentally endorse almost exclusively left-leaning candidates, but that's just a coincidence, right?), was less a 'face-off' and more a thinly veiled campaign rally for the status quo. Business owners who hoped for substantive answers about why their taxes are sky-high while their roads crumble were likely left wondering if these incumbents ever actually step outside their virtue-signaling bubble.

The Whipping Post hears rumors of a massive, unfunded 'equitable housing' initiative quietly bubbling up in the city planning department – a project that, if approved, would undoubtedly cement Goleta’s status as a top-tier financial black hole, all while our council members pat themselves on the back for 'addressing' affordability. It’s almost as if they think throwing more of OPM (Other People’s Money) at a problem is a solution, rather than, say, getting out of the way of free markets and individual liberty. But hey, at least they’re 'talking' about the issues. That’s something, right?
