Apparently, the state's insatiable hunger for other people's property knows no bounds, even when said property has been privately owned for generations. The latest brainstorm involves no fewer than six 'access options,' ranging from a modest 240 daily visitors to a grand influx of nearly 600, all while conveniently ignoring the fundamental concept of private ownership.

This isn't about public access; it's about the ever-expanding reach of the state, eager to exert control over every square inch of California. One has to wonder if these 'public-spirited' discussions are truly about giving ordinary folks a sliver of coastline, or if they're simply clearing the path for favored political patrons and their well-heeled friends to enjoy newly 'accessible' vistas without the pesky need for a property deed. Perhaps a high-dollar lottery for 'equitable' access, featuring VIP catering and valet parking, is next on the agenda.

Of course, the Independent won't ask the obvious question: what exactly entitles the state to commandeer private land for recreational use, especially when it’s always a solution looking for a problem? It's the classic progressive playbook: identify something private, declare it 'underfunded,' 'inaccessible,' or 'unfair,' then unleash a tsunami of bureaucracy and taxpayer dollars to 'fix' it – usually by making it significantly worse, more expensive, and less enjoyable for everyone involved, except, of course, for the consulting firms and government agencies cashing in.

While they obsess over who gets to surf which wave, real problems like affordability, rampant crime in our cities, and the state’s continued decline are, naturally, ignored. But hey, at least we'll have more government-managed beaches! Because nothing says 'freedom' like a 30-year-old bureaucratic battle over private property rights, all to ensure a select few can Instagram their 'remote' beach day.
