The Whipping Post Take on KSBY News
ELECTIONS OFFICE, LIKE, *REALLY* WANTS YOU TO VOTE, JUST NOT *WRONG*
Santa Barbara County’s Elections Office is pulling out all the stops to ‘encourage’ civic participation, conveniently forgetting some votes count more than others.

Power & PoliticsKSBY News recently reported on the Santa Barbara County Elections Office’s heroic efforts to 'encourage' voter registration, as if the fate of the Republic hangs on whether some new college student remembers their social security number. It's truly heartwarming to see our taxpayer dollars hard at work, not on, say, fixing roads or lowering taxes, but on reminding adults how to participate in a democracy they've ostensibly been living in for years. One almost suspects they're less interested in broad participation and more in corralling specific demographics to the ballot box.
Let’s be honest, the 'encouragement' from these election outfits usually comes with a subtle, unspoken addendum: '…as long as you vote the *right* way.' It's a classic progressive tactic – demand engagement, then bemoan the results if they don’t align with the party line. We're sure the Elections Office will be just as thrilled when the sensible, tax-paying citizens of Santa Barbara County turn out in droves to elect representatives who prioritize fiscal sanity and actually make the trains run on time, rather than spending millions on 'equity' consultants.
One has to wonder if these civic-minded bureaucrats are also 'encouraging' voters to question the ever-expanding regulations, the ballooning county budget, or the persistent homelessness crisis that seems to thrive despite endless virtue-signaling. Or perhaps their definition of 'civic participation' only extends to checking a box, not to holding elected officials accountable for the spectacular failures funded by our hard-earned cash. Just a thought from those of us who believe in good governance, not just good intentions.
