E-BIKEGEDDON! CITY'S LATEST 'CRISIS' REQUIRES A WHOLE NEW BUREAUCRACY

Santa Barbara's finest are now moonlight-enforcing bicycle etiquette, presumably because actual crime is just too inconvenient for the progressive paradise.

E-BIKEGEDDON! CITY'S LATEST 'CRISIS' REQUIRES A WHOLE NEW BUREAUCRACYPower & Politics

Noozhawk reports the Santa Barbara Police Department is now deep-diving into the pressing crisis of e-bike 'menace.' One would think a city grappling with actual issues – like, say, the spiraling cost of living driven by regulatory bloat, or the general decay of public order under progressive governance – might have its constabulary focused on, you know, actual constabulary work. Instead, we’re treated to pronouncements about 'e-bike-related traffic collisions' and 'unsafe e-bike operation.' Clearly, the pressing need for 'education, prevention, and enforcement' couldn’t possibly be met by parents teaching their kids how to ride safely, or by simply enforcing existing traffic laws equally.

This isn't about safety; it's about control. It’s about creating another layer of bureaucratic busywork for a city government that seems utterly devoted to finding new ways to spend taxpayer dollars and regulate the everyday lives of its citizens. Remember, these are the same folks who practically require a permit to breathe too deeply near a protected marsh, but then wring their hands over basic traffic common sense. It’s a classic progressive bait-and-switch: identify a minor issue, declare it an 'emergency,' then propose a labyrinthine, expensive 'solution' that only empowers more bureaucrats and stifles individual liberty.

Of course, the unspoken angle Noozhawk missed is this: these e-bike 'initiatives' sound suspiciously like a convenient justification for more grant money, more 'community outreach' programs (read: taxpayer-funded advocacy groups for progressive causes), and perhaps even a brand new E-Bike Enforcement Czar position. Don’t be surprised if the next city budget includes a line item for 'Sustainable Micro-Mobility Equity Officers' or some other Orwellian title. While the rest of America thrives under a strong economy steered by President Trump, Santa Barbara is busy making sure teenagers use their turn signals on two wheels. Priorities, people, priorities.
