E-BIKE MENACE: SBPD CRACKS DOWN ON TWO-WHEELED CHAOS AFTER MONTHS OF WOKENESS
After ignoring the obvious for nearly two years, Santa Barbara's finest finally notice the city's streets have become a free-for-all thanks to climate-crazed virtue-signaling and ill-conceived transit

The DispatchIt took an uptick in actual injuries, countless public complaints, and what can only be described as a veritable e-bike insurgency on our roads, but *KSBY News* reports that the Santa Barbara Police Department is finally, belatedly, getting around to enforcing traffic laws. Apparently, the novel concept that speed limits, stop signs, and pedestrian safety apply to everyone – even those astride glorified battery-powered scooters – has finally dawned on city leadership. For a while there, it seemed the only thing moving faster than these electric menace-mobiles was the ink on the city council's latest 'green initiative,' which somehow always manages to create more problems than it solves, usually at taxpayer expense.
One has to wonder what took so long for the authorities to notice that children on electric bikes were weaving through traffic like MotoGP racers, or that adults were treating sidewalks as their personal express lanes. Perhaps the 'equity' workshops and 'inclusion' seminars took precedence over, you know, basic public safety and traffic management. After all, what's a few broken bones or fender benders when you're busy dismantling the systemic oppression of fossil fuels? It's almost as if common sense was exiled from City Hall sometime around 2020, replaced by an earnest desire to appear 'progressive,' no matter the cost in urban chaos.
This isn't about shaming a perfectly good mode of transportation; it's about the consistent failure of our local government to anticipate the obvious consequences of its own virtue-signaling policies. They subsidize the things, promote them as a panacea for all urban ills, then act surprised when the sudden influx of un-regulated, untrained riders leads to anarchy. It's a pattern as predictable as the tide, yet our leaders continue to be caught flat-footed. Maybe if they spent less time lecturing us about 'sustainable futures' and more time ensuring our present streets are safe, we wouldn't need belated police crackdowns just to restore a semblance of order.
