DC OVERLORDS TO SB: DROP DEAD! (AND PAY FOR IT, TOO)

Well, bless their hearts. The Santa Barbara Independent is wringing its hands over some 'provision' snuck into a defense bill that might, just might, make it easier for pesky energy companies to do… wait for it… energy things. Apparently, Congress decided that rather than letting every last permitting request languish in the bureaucratic quagmire of California's green-obsessed state agencies, the feds might just, you know, greenlight some actual American energy production for a change. It's almost as if common sense occasionally breaks through the D.C. fog, much to the chagrin of the usual suspects.

Congressman Carbajal, our intrepid local progressive, is predictably huffing and puffing about a 'bailout for polluters.' One must assume he’d prefer we all drive electric cars powered by… good vibes? The sheer horror of Sable Offshore actually being able to extract valuable resources to fuel our daily lives, rather than being endlessly stalled by environmentalist virtue-signaling and regulatory red tape, is clearly too much for some to bear. In fact, this might be the most productive thing Congress has done all year: cutting through the Gordian knot of state-level obstructionism that starves our nation of homegrown energy.

Naturally, the Independent portrays this as Washington dictating to California. What they fail to mention is that California has been dictating to itself, and everyone else who relies on affordable energy, for decades. When state policies become so prohibitive that they actively undermine national interests and economic stability, a federal remedy isn't an overreach; it's practically a public service. This isn't about 'polluters' getting a handout; it's about getting vital domestic energy infrastructure built without needing twenty years and a sacrifice to the local Sierra Club chapter. Imagine that: a government actually making it easier to drill, baby, drill!
