COUNTY TO TOSS MORE TAX DOLLARS DOWN THE THERAPY HOLE!

It seems the Santa Barbara Independent is absolutely thrilled that our generous county supervisors are once again 'strengthening access' to 'comprehensive Behavioral Health Services.' For those of us who translate bureaucratese, this means more of your hard-earned dollars are being diverted to ensure everyone in Santa Barbara County can talk about their feelings. Because, clearly, the biggest problem facing our society isn't rampant inflation, soaring crime rates, or the general decay of civic responsibility, but a chronic shortage of government-funded couches.

Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics, bless their hearts, are ramping up these 'affordable' services, which always translates to 'expensive for the taxpayer.' One has to wonder, just how many mental health 'experts' on the public payroll does it take to explain to someone why they're unhappy living in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, probably thanks to the very same taxpayers funding their chat sessions? Perhaps if the county focused on, say, making housing actually affordable for working families instead of subsidizing endless therapy, some of these 'behavioral health' issues might sort themselves out.

Now, here's the angle the Independent didn't print: every dollar spent on these 'expansions' is a dollar not spent on repairing our crumbling roads, supporting our underfunded Sheriff's department, or heaven forbid, actually cutting our astronomical property taxes. But hey, as long as everyone feels properly validated and can access their mandatory 'safe space,' who needs functional infrastructure or a secure community? It's the progressive way: more government, more 'services,' more taxes, and somehow, the problems just keep multiplying. Keep those therapeutic couches warm, folks, you'll need them to process the next tax bill.
