The Whipping Post Take on SB County Board of Supervisors
COUNTY TO BLOW $270K ON CONSULTANTS AS INDIGENT CARE 'HELPS' THEMSELVES
Your Santa Barbara County Supervisors, in their infinite wisdom, are throwing a quarter-million bucks at Precision Health Strategies, LLC to tell them how to handle indigent care. What could possibly
The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, bless their cotton socks, are once again proving that the quickest way to solve any problem is to throw taxpayer cash at a phantom consultant. This time, according to their recent agenda, they've decided to "approve and authorize the Chair to execute an Agreement for Services of Independent Contractor with Precision Health Strategies, LLC for Indigent Care Program consulting services." That's a fancy way of saying they're paying $270,000 for someone else to think for them, from July 2026 to March 2027. One has to wonder what invaluable 'precision' health strategy requires nearly a year of consultation and a budget that could, you know, actually be spent on care.
Indeed, the brilliant bureaucratic maneuver not only commits a hefty sum but also preemptively declares that this fiscal sleight of hand is "not a project that is subject to environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)." Because, naturally, the only thing CEQA cares about is dirt and trees, not the environmental impact of light-speed cash drainage from public coffers. It's truly inspiring how quickly they can dismiss environmental concerns when it's about paying consultants, but try to pave a driveway and watch the eco-warriors descend.
This isn't about helping the indigent; it's about expanding the consulting class, ensuring a revolving door of highly compensated 'experts' who can tell our Supervisors what they want to hear. The real strategy here seems to be Precision Pockets Strategies, LLC, for making sure county funds end up in the right, or rather, the left, hands. Meanwhile, actual indigent care programs will likely continue to receive the same level of actual care, just now with extra layers of 'strategic' overhead.
The Whipping Post predicts this consultancy will produce a beautifully bound report, replete with buzzwords and bar graphs, that confirms what everyone already knew and changes precisely nothing on the ground. But hey, at least some well-connected firm gets a nice chunk of change before anyone even has to lift a finger in 2026. Because when it comes to indigent care, the only thing that's truly precise is the flow of taxpayer dollars away from taxpayers.
