The Whipping Post Take on SB County Board of Supervisors
COUNTY TO BLOW 173K ON NEW BUREAUCRAT TO HELP PEOPLE GET FREE MEDI-CAL
Your tax dollars are hard at work, facilitating more government dependence while ignoring real solutions, all declared magically exempt from environmental review, of course.
Power & PoliticsThe Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors, bless their cotton socks, are once again proving their M.O.: if there's a problem, there's a bureaucrat and a budget item to fix it – or at least pretend to. This time, it's a shining new Memorandum of Understanding between the Behavioral Wellness Department and the Social Services Department. The grand plan? To hire an "Eligibility Worker" at a cool $173,465 a year to help folks navigate the Byzantine labyrinth of Medi-Cal applications. Because, apparently, navigating government programs designed to be simple is now a full-time job for a new government employee.
Naturally, this administrative masterpiece is deemed not a "project" subject to environmental review under CEQA. Because nothing says "environmentally neutral" like adding another cog to the wheel of ever-expanding government, generating piles of paperwork, and facilitating the growth of the welfare state. It's a miracle that paper pushers and their reams of forms don't count as industrial pollution these days.
While ordinary citizens struggle with inflated costs and shrinking paychecks, our Supervisors are busy finding new ways to spend tax revenue on expanding the very systems that create dependency. Instead of advocating for actual solutions like a booming economy and fiscal responsibility that helps people achieve self-sufficiency, they throw more money at the problem's symptoms. It’s an endless loop of feel-good spending that perpetually sidesteps the obvious: less government, less bureaucracy, and less of our money siphoned off for more "eligibility workers" would benefit everyone.
This isn't about helping people; it's about expanding the government's reach, creating more jobs for the county payroll, and ensuring that the cycle of dependency continues unabated. Meanwhile, productive taxpayers are left to wonder if their hard-earned cash will ever fund something tangible, like, say, roads without potholes, instead of another six-figure salary for a bureaucratic paper shuffler.
