COUNTY CRACKS DOWN ON ABANDONED BOATS... BUT WHAT ABOUT ABANDONED POLICIES?Power & Politics
Lompoc Record · The Whipping Post · NO.398 · PANEL 5/6 · SB-78Q

The Lompoc Record reports our esteemed County Supervisors are, with the speed of continental drift, finally getting around to making watercraft owners responsible for their abandoned vessels. Well, bless their hearts! After years of the usual progressive dithering, it seems even they can no longer ignore the unsightly piles of flotsam and jetsam littering our pristine coastlines. One has to wonder if they just ran out of new ways to ban gasoline engines or mandate gender-neutral port-a-potties before this rather obvious problem caught their eye.

Of course, this sudden surge of accountability for boat owners begs a more pressing question: when will these same supervisors be held accountable for the administrative derelicts they’ve allowed to fester in our county government? From bloated budgets to endless permitting delays that would make a Soviet bureaucrat blush, it seems the only thing faster than a sinking sailboat is the speed at which our local government can squander taxpayer dollars on feel-good initiatives that do nothing but create more paperwork. Perhaps they should start by hauling out the true abandoned vessels — the broken promises and economic stagnation caused by their own 'green' mandates and overregulation.

While they’re busy fining some poor schmuck whose leaky fishing boat finally gave up the ghost, let’s not forget the true cost of their utopian dreams. Every time they pass another decree designed to 'save the planet' or 'promote equity,' a thousand small businesses are swamped, and the working families of Santa Barbara County find themselves bailing out harder than a dinghy in a hurricane. This new crackdown on abandoned boats isn't about protecting the environment; it’s about distraction. It’s easier to blame a rusty hull than to admit their own policies are marooning our local economy.

So, while the Supervisors preen about tidying up the shoreline, we at The Whipping Post invite them to turn their gaze inward. There are far more 'derelict' policies in their own chambers than there are barnacle-bottomed boats in the harbor. Perhaps after they've cleaned up the boats, they can start hauling out the real dead weight: the wasteful spending, the overbearing regulations, and the progressive ideologues who consistently put special interest groups ahead of the hardworking people of Santa Barbara County. It’s time to abandon *their* abandoned policies.
