CARPINTERIA CANNABIS CARTEL SNIFFS OUT LOOPHOLE!
After years of reeking up the valley, pot growers finally move to 'control' odors, probably after realizing the county board meant business about those sweet, sweet tax dollars.

It seems the progressive paradise of Santa Barbara County has finally put its foot down, and not a moment too soon, according to our friends over at Coastal View News. Apparently, after more than a year of threats that amounted to little more than a sternly worded letter, Carpinteria cannabis growers are suddenly scrambling to install 'state-of-the-art odor control technology.' One has to wonder if 'state-of-the-art' means they’ve finally invested in industrial-sized air fresheners or perhaps just found a new, more lucrative way to spread their aroma without it landing on the wrong (i.e., wealthy) noses.
For what feels like eons, residents have been subjected to the pungent perfume of progress, as our unelected overlords on the County Board of Supervisors blessed every square inch of the valley with weed farms. The promise, of course, was untold riches for the public coffers, neatly sidestepping issues like 'quality of life' for the actual humans living there. Now, with the threat of business license revocation looming – a threat no doubt spurred by a sudden dip in projected tax revenue, not public outcry – these cannabis barons are acting like kids who just remembered their homework is due tomorrow.
The real story, as usual, isn't about the smell, but the dollar. Our esteemed elected officials, after years of waving the green flag for green product, only seem to care when the cash flow is endangered. The 'state-of-the-art' solution will likely involve some taxpayer subsidy down the line, or perhaps an 'innovative' new fee structure that ensures the growers pay less while residents still hold their breath and their wallets. It's a classic tale of government intervention: create a problem, ignore it till it's politically inconvenient, then 'solve' it with more regulations and expense, all while proclaiming victory for the people. We just hope the solution actually works, unlike most government programs, or we'll all be smoking something we didn't buy.
