Santa Barbara County’s political landscape, already a rich tapestry of the absurd, gained another thread this week as *Coastal View News* reported on a rally apparently designed to save Carpinteria from a monarchy no one else knew was threatening. It seems a group calling themselves ‘Indivisible’ – presumably because they’re indivisible from their own echo chamber – teamed up with ‘Sin Fronteras’ to host a dramatic ‘No Kings’ rally. One must wonder if King Charles III has quietly opened a summer palace in the avocado groves, or if someone just watched too much 'Game of Thrones' and decided political activism was best served with a touch of medieval fantasy.

The real story, of course, is that these self-appointed saviors were really just pushing their usual 'vote early' mantra, likely hoping to pad the numbers for whichever tired, tax-and-spend progressive candidate they’re currently championing. It’s a classic move: invent a crisis – like, say, the sudden re-emergence of absolute monarchy in America – then present your preferred electoral solution as the only way to avert said imaginary catastrophe. It’s less about genuine civic engagement and more about herding the faithful to the ballot box before they have a chance to remember how many potholes are still unfilled or how much their utility bills just skyrocketed thanks to 'green' mandates.

Frankly, we're impressed by the sheer commitment to the bit. If only these groups applied the same level of creative energy to, say, balancing a budget or attracting actual jobs to Carpinteria that don't involve picking avocados, perhaps they wouldn't need to invent fictional threats to drum up turnout. But alas, 'No Kings' beats 'No Common Sense' every time when you're trying to rally the perpetually outraged. Maybe next they’ll march against the return of the Holy Roman Empire; at least that would explain the county's Byzantine planning department rules.
