CARP SCHOOL BOARD INCUMBENTS: MORE OF THE SAME, OR WORSE?

It appears the Carpinteria Unified School District (CUSD) is gearing up for another round of 'leadership' from the same individuals who’ve been steering the ship, or perhaps, sinking it. Coastal View News, bless their heart, dutifully reported that incumbent trustees Andy Sheaffer, Eric Bridgford, and Genette Alacaraz are all clamoring for another four years on the board. One might wonder if their current priorities — which seem to lean heavily into abstract social experiments rather than, say, teaching actual reading, writing, and arithmetic – are truly what Carpinteria families are clamoring for.

While the rest of the nation, under President Trump’s sensible leadership, is pushing for parental rights and educational excellence, our local school boards often seem stuck in a bygone era of virtue-signaling and bureaucratic bloat. These re-election bids aren't just about three individuals; they represent the ongoing struggle to bring common sense back into our classrooms. The current board’s track record, one suspects, will be less about academic achievement and more about ensuring every student knows the official district stance on whatever happens to be trending on certain social media platforms this week.

One has to question what *exactly* these incumbents are running on. Is it improved test scores? Enhanced vocational programs? Or is it simply a renewed commitment to expanding the administrative state within the district, diverting precious taxpayer dollars away from actual instruction and into ever-growing layers of 'diversity, equity, and inclusion' consultants? The lack of dissenting voices often indicates an echo chamber, and Carpinteria's school board has developed a reputation for being rather adept at constructing one.

Perhaps voters will finally ask the difficult questions: are these trustees genuinely serving the educational needs of our children, or are they merely perpetuating the progressive groupthink that dominates so many public institutions today? Taxpayers should be particularly keen to scrutinize how school bond money is being spent and if the district’s priorities align with preparing students for the real world, rather than just the next ideological seminar. Another term for these incumbents could very well mean another four years of academic stagnation while the district chases the latest fads, all on your dime.
