One can almost hear the collective gasp of the Santa Barbara Independent's readership, convinced this is some grave injustice, rather than a transparent attempt to maintain a system ripe for 'irregularities.'

Frankly, it's getting tiresome. Democrats, who scream about 'voter suppression' every time someone suggests an ID might be useful, suddenly discover a newfound reverence for states' rights when it means they can keep the ballot box as permeable as a wet paper bag. Their argument about the Constitution giving states power over elections would be almost convincing if it weren't so selectively deployed, usually only when it serves to undermine national efforts at securing the democratic process.

What these Sacramento power-brokers, and their cheerleaders in the legacy media, consistently fail to grasp is that most Americans, including those of us here in Santa Barbara County, actually *want* secure elections. We want to know our vote counts, and that it isn't being diluted by questionable ballots or outright fraud. But for California's ruling class, 'election integrity' seems to translate to 'how can we maximize the chaos and ambiguity to ensure our favored candidates scrape by?'

This isn't about protecting the sanctity of the vote; it's about protecting a political advantage built on a system that rewards ambiguity. While President Trump is busy restoring American strength and securing our borders, these California officials are busy securing a less-than-secure voting system, all on your dime. It makes you wonder what they're really afraid of: a fair election, or an honest count.
