One almost expects a follow-up story noting that the city's homeless population isn't 'alarmed' by the housing crisis – probably because they're too busy setting up their next encampment on prime beachfront real estate. While the Thin Blue Line bravely patrols, one has to ask if the real alarm bells are ringing in the plush offices of our city council, wondering how much more they can defund before the city empties out entirely. Perhaps 'not alarmed' is the new 'we're totally on top of things, shut up and pay your taxes.'

The Independent's piece highlighted increased police presence around Bohnett Park, which is heartwarming for those who enjoy their public spaces free from, well, public hazards. This vigorous response comes as a comfort to taxpayers who, after all, only hand over hefty sums for things like, say, law and order. Meanwhile, the city's progressive leadership continues to marvel at the correlation between lax enforcement and soaring crime, as if nature itself was defying their carefully crafted, social-justice-oriented urban planning manifestos. Any sensible person knows that coddling criminals and demonizing law enforcement doesn't exactly make for a charming tourist destination.

But here's the angle nobody else printed: the 'not alarmed' posture isn't just about police morale; it's a strategic public relations move by a city hall desperate to maintain the illusion of paradise. Admitting that public safety is genuinely deteriorating would require accountability, and accountability is about as rare in this town as a modest property tax bill.
