The Whipping Post Take on SB County Board of Supervisors
BOOM! HOLLISTER RANCH ROAD RELOCATED! BUREAUCRATS STILL LOST IN PAPERWORK!
While the Planning & Development Director actually *did something* useful for once, the Board of Supervisors gathers to 'receive and file' it, because thinking is hard.
On the RoadIt's 2026, and apparently, some roads just *have* to be moved. We get it. Erosion, Mother Nature, blah blah. But leave it to Santa Barbara County's finest at the Board of Supervisors to find a way to make even a necessary act of common sense sound like a bureaucratic struggle session for the ages. This week, our elected officials — whose primary function seems to be stamping things already done or endlessly discussing things that never will be — are set to 'receive and file' a report about a road at Hollister Ranch that was already moved back in April.
Yes, you read that right. April 2026. The Planning & Development Director, bless his heart, apparently made a unilateral decision to, you know, prevent a road from falling into the Pacific Ocean. A revolutionary concept, we know: direct action to solve a problem. It's almost as if some people actually *do* their jobs without needing a committee, a consultant, and six environmental impact reports to decide which shade of beige paint to use on a porta-potty.
But fear not, taxpayers! The Board of Supervisors is on the case! Months later, they're finally getting around to 'receiving and filing' the paperwork. Because nothing says good governance like retroactively rubber-stamping something that had to be done five months ago, then declaring it's 'not a project' under CEQA because it's 'administrative government activity.' It's a miracle these folks manage to tie their own shoelaces in the morning without first commissioning a multi-million-dollar study on 'Bipedal Mobility Enhancement for Lace-Based Footwear Containment Systems.'
Meanwhile, the actual problem was solved by one person with common sense. It almost makes you wonder what would happen if the entire County government just... stopped. The roads would still get moved, the trash would still get collected, and we'd probably have a lot more money in our pockets without this endless, self-important parade of 'administrative government activity' disguised as productive work. The Whipping Post salutes the Director for getting something done. As for the Supervisors? Keep filing those reports, boys. The world (and the road) will keep moving without you.
