BONTABOT 2.0 MALFUNCTIONS: SUES TRUMP ADMIN OVER OBAMA-ERA WAIVERS!The Dispatch
Santa Barbara Independent · The Whipping Post · NO.444 · PANEL 4/6 · SB-1KD

California's Attorney General Rob Bonta, apparently suffering from a severe case of political amnesia, has once again decided to sue the 'feds' over Sable Offshore's pipeline waivers. One would think with the current Trump administration in power, Sacramento's legal eagles might find new targets for their endless litigation, but no. Instead, they've dusted off their old grievances, seemingly unaware that the 'federal' landscape has shifted considerably since these waivers were, inconveniently for Bonta, approved way back during the Obama 'Hope and Change' years. The Santa Barbara Independent, ever eager to print 'man bites dog' stories even when the man is biting a ghost, dutifully reported the AG's latest theatrical performance.

It’s almost charming, in a fantastically expensive way, how persistently California's top lawyer clings to regulations that predate the current White House resident. Perhaps Bonta missed the memo that the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is now under different management—management that actually believes in domestic energy production rather than strangling it with red tape. His legal team must be working overtime to find the 'illegal' part of a waiver granted years ago, conveniently forgetting that what was 'legal' or 'illegal' often depends on who is signing the executive orders.

This isn't about safety for Bonta; it's about virtue signaling, plain and simple. Every time a left-leaning AG sues 'the feds' over oil, it’s a dog whistle to the environmental lobby that he’s still 'fighting the good fight' against reliable, affordable energy. Meanwhile, regular Californians are still paying exorbitant prices at the pump, while bureaucratic infighting over legacy waivers provides no tangible relief. The real scandal here isn't the pipeline itself, but the endless legal maneuvers designed to enrich trial lawyers and score political points, all at the expense of taxpayers who are fed up with this progressive charade.

The untold story? This perpetual pipeline panic serves as a convenient distraction from California's actual burgeoning crises—homelessness, rampant crime, and a state budget that looks more like a third-world ledger every fiscal quarter. But why address those problems when you can sue President Trump's administration for something the Obama White House approved? It's a goldmine for PR teams, if not for common sense.
