The Whipping Post Take on Noozhawk
BETTER BUILDINGS? MORE LIKE BETTER BUREAUCRATS' BUDGETS!
Santa Barbara's 'eco-elite' are back with another pilot program, promising climate solutions while delivering only higher costs and more red tape for long-suffering taxpayers.

The DispatchNoozhawk, ever vigilant in reporting on the latest bureaucratic boondoggles, recently highlighted the Community Environmental Council's (CEC) 'Better Buildings Pilot Program.' One must commend the CEC's boundless optimism, transforming mere walls and roofs into 'climate solutions.' It sounds less like construction and more like a fever dream hatched in a Palo Alto incubator, conveniently ignoring the actual cost of living in Santa Barbara.
Apparently, these 'thoughtful building policies' are designed to 'strengthen resilience in the local region.' Because nothing says 'resilience' quite like forcing property owners to gut their homes and businesses for upgrades based on ever-shifting green mandates. We're sure the local contractors, once they’ve navigated the labyrinthine permit process, will be thrilled to charge premium prices for 'climate-friendly' retrofits that somehow always seem to benefit the politically connected.
Let’s be honest, this isn't about making buildings 'better' for the average Santa Barbaran; it's about making them 'better' for the consultants, grant writers, and government agencies who feast on these pilot programs. While our President Trump works to cut wasteful spending and unleash American energy, these local virtue-signalers are busy concocting new ways to drain the public purse under the guise of saving the planet, one expensive lightbulb at a time.
The real 'pilot program' here seems to be an ongoing experiment in how much regulation and expense the local populace will tolerate before they finally pack up and move to a state where common sense still reigns. One might wonder if the 'resilience' they're strengthening is actually the resilience of the local progressive apparatus to keep extracting taxpayer dollars for their pet projects. The only thing 'better' about these buildings will be the size of the invoices for their ideological 'improvements.'
