Yes, in a move that surely keeps the trains running on time, our esteemed Supervisors, who routinely lecture us on global warming while flying private jets to climate conferences, have taken time out of their busy schedules of inventing new taxes to officially recognize an organization for youth development. One can only imagine the intense debate and painstaking negotiation that went into ensuring the week of October 4th through 10th, 2026, is properly designated for young people learning about agriculture and civic engagement. Perhaps a few of them even remembered what a cow looked like.

This isn't to say 4-H isn't a fine institution – it is, and its conservative values of hard work and community are precisely what our county desperately needs more of, not just a performative nod from an out-of-touch Board. But when the county's infrastructure crumbles, small businesses are strangled by regulations, and residents flee due to exorbitant housing costs, one has to wonder if these symbolic gestures are merely a smokescreen. The Supervisors, ever adept at diverting attention from their own progressive missteps, are clearly hoping we'll all be too busy admiring their civic-mindedness to notice the real problems they refuse to tackle.
